Uncovering Evidence with Securus Technologies Call Systems

When we had a real problem inside our jail, we began running out of resources for solving the problem. Over the last few months, the amount of drugs inside our prison has escalated to the point that each of my fellow correction officers are in severe danger each day we come to work. We have a few resources available to us to slow down the stream of drugs, but nothing seemed to be working.

We would increase our presence in the visitor center, but the amount of drugs we recovered was average. We even increased our searches of inmate cells, but no matter how much we recovered, the drug problem did not go away. It seemed like we were going to never solve this mystery, and then we discovered we had not correctly utilized another resource we have available to use.

Securus Technologies placed their inmate call monitoring system in our facility, and the LBS software enabled us to pick up chatter on any subject. When we decided to pay closer attention to the calls concerning drugs, we really had no idea what we were going to uncover. Securus Technologies is a Dallas-based company with 1,000 employees all working towards making the world safer for us all to live.

Soon as my team understood the details of working the LBS software, we got down to business. It was only hours later that call after call kept zeroing in on visitors coming to the jail but only seeing a certain officer. What we didn’t know at the time was this officer was not only letting certain visitors by without a thorough screening, he was even selling his prescription drugs to the inmates. The Securus Technologies helped us to identify the corrupt staff member and take him off his position and into his very own cell in another jail.

How Securus Technologies Helps Officers Control Violence

I work in a jail where the violence in recent years has exploded, and in addition to inmates hurting one another, they are targeting officers and even the visitors on occasion. It can be a real struggle going to work knowing that on any given day you may not be coming home to your family because an inmate was given the order by another inmate to follow their orders.

To combat the violence, the first thing that we do is try to keep those weapons from ever getting in the jail. To do this, we have a strong police presence at the visitor center each day, making sure every person who comes into the jail is contraband free. Even on our best days, things get through and into the hands of the inmates. The next thing we do in our efforts to get weapons, surprise cell inspections. We do these all day and night to find things in the cells the inmates are either hiding or working on.

We used to rely heavily on the inmate call system to pick up on conversations between inmates but they have gotten very good at hiding their conversations in a way that we can not make heads or tales of what they are saying to each other. That was until Securus Technologies updated the phone system and now we have a resource unlike any other in our fight to stop the violence in our jails.

My staff was trained on the LBS software, and immediately we began picking up on chatter from top-ranking gang members who would put order in to start fights, bring weapons to the jail, or how and where these weapons were hidden out in the yard in plain sight. We have put a huge dent in the violence in our jail thanks to the team at Securus Technologies.

Securus Technologies Releases Software With Voice Search Feature

Securus Technologies, a leader in civil and criminal justice technology solutions, has just announced the release of Investigator Pro 4.0. This software from JLG Technologies has the capability to search for specific voices.

This searchable voice feature allows investigators to select a voice sample from either an inmate or the person that they have called. Once a sample is selected, investigators can then search for every call made by that voice.

With Investigator Pro 4.0 investigators can uncover gang activity as it takes place, and stop possible criminal activities. With this software, law enforcement officers can determine who an inmate has called and determine if any other inmates have called that person as well.

On the flip side, they can also see if one party from the outside is calling numerous inmates. This could be a sign that criminal activity is taking place.

With Investigator Pro 4.0 investigators will now have a powerful suite of software applications to identify any possible criminal activity that is taking place over inmate phone systems.

When reading about the prison industry, this topic presents an interesting topic due to the fact that individuals think about the finality of the sentence to prison rather than what goes on within the prison and what privileges and punishments are allotted to each prison member after the overall sentence of them. Our Chief Executive Officer Richard A. Smith said that we love our industry, serving law enforcement, corrections, inmates, friends/family members and all society. He stated that it offends him and our entire industry when a carrier condescends well below the integrity bar. He concluded that our industry mission is not making money from our customers, but it is to serve them with their best interest at heart.

Our company will review multiple issues of systematic wrongdoings/potential wrongdoings by GTL in a series of the press release in the next six months to shame GTL into acting with higher/better integrity. Some of these practices include;

• Programs at the clocks in their telephones at correctional institutions to add either 15 or 36 seconds to the duration of each call which is unauthorized and unlawful according to the Global practice of advancing the clocks.
• Programmed its telephone to rate calls at higher rates than those permitted under its tariffs or the price caps.
• Billing a single call more than once.
• Artificially inflated charges to their customers.

Securus Chief Executive Officer, Richard A. Smith, stated that the clients need a higher level of integrity than to have a carrier deliberately programming clocks. He said he cares a lot about the responsibility that we carry and we cannot allow such actions to tarnish our industry. Adding time to clocks in telecommunications represents the ultimate in wrongdoing, playing tricks to your customers and scamming in the real B.S and cancer in our industry.
